Robert Motherwell
Untitled, 1991
Acrylic on wood board
10 x 8 in.
From an early age the artist explored the visionary ideas of leaders in philosophy, literature, and poetry. Not only was Robert Motherwell one of the founding members and spokesmen of the celebrated Abstract expressionist movement but he had continued as a leader in developing several subsequent artistic directions taken into the late twentieth century. His visions were unsurpassed by his many contemporaries. Constant inquisitions into techniques and materials allowed this artist's mature works to remain as fresh and inquisitive as his early breakthrough pieces.
